Travel Notes – Cappadocia Day 01

After a non-stop 12 hour flight from Singapore, we arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday morning around 7.30 in the morning and transferred to the domestic terminal at Ataturk Airport to catch our flight to Cappadocia at 12.50 pm. Our Turkish Airlines flight was on time and we landed at Kayseri Airport around 3 pm. Our hotel pick-up was waiting for us as we exited the arrival hall. It was a lovely sunny but cold day and we were glad that after months of planning, we were finally here in Cappadocia!

I had made reservations to stay at the Kelebek Cave Hotel¬†and it took us about an hour’s drive for us to reach there. The drive was quiet and pleasant, no traffic to be seen at all. We arrived at the hotel around 5 pm and were just amazed at how beautiful the place is. Rooms carved into natural caves surrounded by an incredible landscape greeted us upon our arrival. It was a view that we had not yet seen before and it was just amazing!

We unpacked our suitcases and after cleaning up, we thought of heading down to town for dinner but because we were so tired from our long flight from Singapore, we decided to eat in at the hotel restaurant instead. We had our first taste of Turkish food and apple tea here and ordered some local dishes to try. We ordered some cheese pockets with salad, a mushroom & cheese pancake, some beef stew and a serving of sauteed chicken with flatbread. Everything was soooo good! After filling up our tummies, we walked around the hotel to take some pictures before heading back to our room.

The kids and I chatted for a while and by 8, all of us were fast asleep. I had told them to sleep early as we were scheduled to leave the hotel at 5.55 am the next morning to go on our balloon flight. Such an exciting day to look forward to!
